Our Origin

The Bardhaman Sadar Xaverian Ladies' Society had its humble beginning in December 1975, when the lady teachers of St. Xavier's School, Burdwan assembled with a shared desire to engage in organized social service. Encouraged and inspired by the then Headmaster, Rev. Fr. A. Crasta, S.J., they formed a service club named "St. Xavier's Ladies' Service."

The initiative began in 1975 — the International Women's Year — symbolizing a strong commitment to the upliftment of women and children, especially those in need of care and support.

Growth and Reorganization

In 2003, as many of the founding office bearers retired, a new committee was formed. The name of the organisation was changed to "Xaverian Ladies' Service."

Registration and New Identity (2022–2025)

On 24th February 2022, a meeting of the Xaverian Ladies' Service was held under the chairmanship of Rev. Dr. Fr. Maria Joseph Savariappan S.J., Principal of St. Xavier's School, Burdwan, who is also the Chairman and Advisor of the Organisation. The Executive Committee was elected through a secret ballot system.

During this tenure, the organisation was officially registered. In the process of registration, the name was changed to "Bardhaman Sadar Xaverian Ladies' Society."

Objectives of the Society

The objectives of the Bardhaman Sadar Xaverian Ladies' Society are:

  1. To work for charitable purposes and the welfare of people in general, especially the marginalized sections of society.
  2. To promote and encourage the advancement of education, health, culture, and spiritual development through a holistic perspective.
  3. To organise seminars, congresses, workshops, conferences and symposia on various topics of social interest.
  4. To undertake social welfare activities at the village level, visit orphanages, old age homes and hospitals, organise health camps, and serve people affected by pandemics and natural calamities.
  5. To promote environmental awareness and ecological protection through tree plantation, cleanliness drives and pollution control initiatives.
  6. To undertake activities aimed at women empowerment.
